What it is
BPC-157 ("Body Protection Compound-157") is a synthetic peptide said to be derived from a fragment of a human gastric protein. In animal studies it shows broad tissue-healing effects — tendon, ligament, gut, and more. It is the flagship "healing peptide" of the recovery/longevity community and the base of the Wolverine stack (with TB-500) and the GLOW/KLOW blends (with GHK-Cu and KPV).
What People Use it For
Community: tendon/ligament/muscle injury recovery, gut issues, general "healing" and post-surgical recovery.
Form: injected (local or subcutaneous) or taken orally; sold as gray-market lyophilized powder, and increasingly as a component of premixed multi-peptide blends.
What The Evidence Shows
This is the exemplar Tier-C evidence gap:
Animal data is genuinely extensive — many rodent studies report tendon, ligament, and gut healing. This is real literature, and it's what makes the compound plausible enough to trend.
Human data is essentially absent. The one registered early-phase human trial — "Bepecin" (Phase 1, NCT02637284) — has UNKNOWN status, no posted results, n≈42, and has not been updated in years (verified via ClinicalTrials.gov this project). So the community claim "there's a clinical trial" is technically true and practically empty: a Phase 1 that never reported is not evidence of efficacy.
The translation gap is the whole story: impressive animal healing data does not establish that injected BPC-157 does the same in humans, at what dose, or safely.
Why the evidence is thin (and what it does NOT mean): no corporate sponsor, no approval pathway, so no one has funded the human trials. Thin human data reflects who paid for research, not proof of no effect — but "promising in rats" is not "shown to work in people," and the community routinely collapses the two.
Regulatory Status - Canada
Not approved by Health Canada for any use. Sold as a "research chemical" / "not for human use" — seller's legal shield, not a safety statement. US context: the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee is scheduled to review BPC-157 (among other peptides) for the 503A compounding list on July 23–24, 2026 — a US compounding-list question that does not change Health Canada status or make BPC-157 approved.
Risks & Red Flags
Human safety is largely uncharacterized — with almost no completed human trials, there is no robust adverse-event dataset either way. Absence of reported harm is not evidence of safety.
Angiogenic concern: BPC-157 is discussed as promoting blood-vessel growth — a theoretical flag for anyone with cancer risk that community messaging rarely raises.
Injection/sourcing-linked: non-sterile self-injection, unknown actual dose, unverified identity (see §6).
Sourcing red flags
Unapproved, unverified product: identity, purity, and dose unconfirmed; no regulated source exists.
"99% purity" ≠ potency: purity says nothing about the amount of active peptide you're getting.
Premixed blends are worse: in a Wolverine/GLOW/KLOW vial you can't confirm the BPC-157 dose or separate its effects/reactions from the other components (see the stacks page).

How To Lower Your Risk
Read the evidence tier honestly: this is animal-data-plus-anecdote for human use, not a proven therapy. Proceed, if at all, knowing that — not believing a Phase 1 trial validated it.
Single compound over premixed blend if using — at least the dose is knowable and reactions attributable.
Third-party identity + quantity testing (not a vendor "99% purity" claim) is the minimum sourcing bar.
Sterile technique; never share vials.
